There are some points to be taken into consideration in order for the wound site to not become inflamed after tooth extraction, the patient to survive the post-extraction period with less pain and distress.

Conditions to be considered are as follows;

  • Sterile gauze pads placed for the formation of a clot should be kept in the mouth for half an hour. With this tampon, pressure is applied to the wound. The tampon should not be chewed, bitten tightly and then discarded.
  • The wound should not be tampered with tongue or foreign objects. Otherwise, pain, abscess or bleeding may develop.
  • On the day of tooth extraction, the mouth should not be shaken and spit as much as possible. Otherwise, the clot will move and bleeding may increase.
  • Immediately after the operation, a cold tampon (ice) is applied to the area where the jaw is shot, preventing swelling of the face. The application follows these steps: 10 minutes cold buffer – 5 minutes break – again 10 minutes cold buffer periods. The longer the application continues until it goes to bed, the less likely the face will be swelling and bruising.

Bleeding may continue as a leak. However, in cases where it continues more intensely, a bag of tea soaked in warm water can be placed in the wound and bitten for 1 hour. In case of prolonged bleeding, light red colored blood, in the form of large clot in the mouth, a physician should be visited immediately.

  • Do not chew with the tooth extracted during the first 24 hours.
  • You shouldnt drink anything using a pipette during the first 24 hours. This sucking action impairs the clot in the wound.
  • Smoking should not be drunk for the first 24 hours and alcohol for the first 72 hours.
  • The day after tooth extraction, brushing should be started with a soft toothbrush, and oral hygiene should be kept at the highest level without damaging the wound.
  • If the swelling on the face becomes excessive, difficulties in opening and closing the mouth, a hot tampon can be applied to the face in consultation with the physician.
  • If the doctor wrote the drug after the shooting, the usage hours of them should be paid attention and care should be taken to use them properly until the box is finished. It is not necessary to use drugs after every tooth extraction. If the doctor does not prescribe medication, it should not be insisted.
